Utilization of Cross-matching Databases to Obtain Chlamydia Re-screening and Re-infection Rates for Family Planning/Infertility Prevention Project Clinics: Three Years of Data, Rhode Island, 2004-2006 Michael Gosciminski, MT, MPH Public Health Epidemiologist Rhode Island Department of Health

In Rhode Island, medical record reviews were performed to evaluate chlamydia re-screening timeframes and re-infection rates in Infertility Prevention Project (IPP) sites, but it was a time consuming process and not all of the medical records of females testing positive for chlamydia could be reviewed. In addition, the Rhode Island IPP database was found to have incomplete re-screening data in the early years of the project. Background

Step 1 A list of all Family Planning clinic females with a positive chlamydia test was generated from the Rhode Island IPP database. This list contained: ♦ Medical Record Number of individual, and ♦ Date of Birth MR # DOB IPP Database

Step 2 This list was cross-matched with CERNER by utilizing the two variables from Step 1. From this cross-match, three variables are collected: ♦ Name of individual ♦ Dates of collection of subsequent chlamydia screening specimens, and ♦ Results of subsequent chlamydia screening specimens MR # DOB Cross match #1 Name Date of subsequent testing Results of subsequent testing IPP Database CERNER (LIS)

Step 3 The name of the individual and date of birth from Step 1 and Step 2 were utilized to cross-match with STD- MIS. From this cross-match, one variable was collected; ♦ Treatment data for chlamydia infections MR # DOB Cross match #1 Name Date of subsequent testing Results of subsequent testing IPP Database CERNER (LIS) STD*MIS Cross match #2 Treatment data

Step 4 Treatment Date (From STD*MIS) Rescreening Date (From Cerner) Calculate length of time between treatment date and the chlamydia re-screening date Calculate chlamydia re-screening positivity and

Results * 2004 was the last year that medical record reviews were performed for the purpose of evaluating treatment and re-screening within IPP/FP clinics
