On the 6 th February 1952, Queen Elizabeth II began her reign. She had her coronation on the 2 nd June that year.

In June 2012 the Queen will celebrate 60 years of being on the throne. This is called a Diamond Jubilee. British people will celebrate this by having a special Bank Holiday.

The Queen’s Coronation. On the 2 nd June 1953 at 11 o’clock, millions of people gathered television sets in their homes or other people’s homes to watch Elizabeth be crowned Queen.

The coronation was held in Westminster Abbey in London.

After the Queen had been on the throne for 25 years there was a Silver Jubilee.

People celebrated with street parties.

Now, for the Diamond Jubilee people will celebrate again!

At Tiverton we will be having an exciting week of Jubilee activities. There will be lots of things to make like designing a Jubilee coin, portraits of the Queen and making bunting.

There will be fantastic trips to royal themed places in London.

On Friday everyone in Tiverton will dress up in Union Jack colours (red, white and blue) and there will be a Tiverton street party!
