2 National Costumes  Many cultures have developed their own distinctive clothing style or national costume.  Ancient Celts of Scotland  Purpose was to identify different clans by their different color kilts  Now, it is known as the national dress of Scotland and is worn on special occasions

3 National Costumes  Middle Eastern Countries  Turban  Purpose to absorb sweat and keep the body cool. Also to keep the head warm in the winter and on cold nights.  Can be as long as 12 feet.

5 National Costumes  Native Americans  They adorn themselves with colorful beads that are sewn to soft leather in special patterns

6 Clothing as Symbols  Why does a traditional American bride wear a white dress?  It a symbol of innocence, faith and purity  Why does a bride in China wear red?  It is a symbol of joy
