2 What PMR is: o Polymyalgia Rheumatica (or PMR) is a syndrome that involves having intense pain in your muscles. Especially in the neck, shoulder and hips.

3 Ways PMR is autoimmune: o PMR is autoimmune because the white-blood cells attack the lining of the joints causing them to become inflamed. o Causing intense pain and stiffness.

4 Symptoms: o Aches and pain in shoulders. o Pain in the neck, butt and hips and thighs. o Depression and fever. o Fatigue and lack of apiete (associated with weight loss). o Anemia o Giant Cell Arteritis (which can cause stroke, heart attack or sudden blindness).

6 Treatments: o Prednisone is usually the drug of choice to treat PMR. The initial daily dose is 10- 20mg a day. o The duration is frequently greater than one year. o Patients are encouraged to exercise and eat healthy.

7 Additional Info: o You are able to live with PMR. Meaning you are able to resume all normal, daily activities. o If untreated it can cause serious disabilities. o The average length of PMR is 3 years. However, the chance of relapse is common, affecting about 25%.
