The internet began as a resource to find information, “go there, learn that.” This is the original (1.0) “version” of the web

It has evolved into a resource to interact, “go there, converse, contact, collaborate, share, revise, author, hear, see, and do that.” This is the new (2.0) “version” of the web 2.0

We are now using the web to communicate in extraordinary ways. This gives us the impression that it’s a whole new version of the web. But the 2.0 title is really just a catch phrase that caught on…and stuck.

Started in 1965 E-mail allows each participant to decide when and how they will process the information Reading, ordering, sorting, ‘re-contextualizing’ fragmented information and of course writing e- mail takes up a lot of time This is the most widely used written medium in business

Started in 1994 Creator Ward Cunningham named it wiki wiki web to emphasize the quickness and ease of the program Common uses include project communication, intranets, and documentation Because of it’s open style of editing, new users fear the power others have to change content, but controls can be set to lock-down the site as necessary

Portable On Demand Broadcasting Although the term podcasting came from the Ipod craze, you don’t need an Ipod to make or listen to podcasts Podcasts enable students and teachers to share information with one another at any time One simple method is accomplished via phone, like leaving a phone message

Early social networks began in 1995 Are communities of people who share interests and activities Users interact through chat, messaging, email, video, voice, file sharing, blogging and discussion groups Threat of sharing too much information Popular sites for social networks include myspace and facebook

Site with the aim of connecting professionals together Linkedin is a very popular professional network with more than 20 million registered users from 150 different industries These networks improve the ability for people to advance professionally
