’05 Dr. Jeffrey Carver Assistant Professor Mississippi State University Homepage: www.cse.msstate.edu/~carverwww.cse.msstate.edu/~carver List of main empirical research areas:  Software Architecture  Software Engineering for High Performance Computing  Process Improvement  The Experimentation Process Main motivation for joining ISERN:  Want to join a community of researchers  Already collaborating with ISERN members  Interested in additional collaborations Planned contributions to the community:  Strengthen exisiting collaborations  Form new collaborations Candidate member

’05 Dr. Jeffrey Carver Assistant Professor Mississippi State University Main empirical research areas:  Software Architecture  Software Engineering for High Performance Computing  Process Improvement  The Experimentation Process  Building Knowledge through Experimental Replication  Error Abstraction (with Cognitive Science)  Qualitative Methods  Software Inspections Candidate member

’05 Main motivation for joining ISERN:  Difficult (if not impossible) to do empirical work in isolation  Would like to be part of a community of like-minded researchers  During graduate school (studying with Vic Basili) got the chance to interact with some ISERN members  Interesting and beneficial to work with researchers who have different (but related) interests  Interested in collaborations Expectations  Interact with more experienced researchers  Form collaborations that would not otherwise occur  Obtain deeper understanding of topics through coordinated and replicated studies Motivation & Expectation

’05 Planned contributions to the community:  Strengthen exisiting collaborations  Form new collaborations  Expertise of other faculty members in my department  Security  Software Metrics  High Performance Computing  Graphics and Visualization  Artificial Intelligence  Bioinformatics Current collaboriations with ISERN (if any):  Fraunhofer Center-Maryland and University of Maryland  Collaborative NSF Science of Design Grant  High Performance Computing Systems Project  University of Sao Paulo  Hosted Jose Maldonado’s PhD student this semester Contribution & Collaboration

’05 Mississippi State University Department of Computer Science & Engineering Mississippi State University  Approx. 15,000 students  Major Engineering school in the state  NSF Engineering Research Center Department of Computer Science and Engineering  16 tenure-track faculty members  Research areas: Software Engineering, Security, HPC, AI, Viz  Offer Bachelor’s Degrees in:  Computer Science  Software Engineering  Graduate Students: 27 PhD, 43 MS
