3 Economy Game - Do not eat candy. If you eat the candy you are out for the rest of the period. Play Rock Paper Scissors. For each play, loser gives up a candy to the winner. When you have no more candy, stay where you are but stop playing. If you lose your partner, find another and continue play. Essential question: Why do we have economies? 4 Discuss/take notes: How did you feel at the start of the game? How did you feel if you ran out of candy and hand to sit down? What tactics could you have used to get back in the game? 7 Analogy: Marx’s Theory of Capitalism Teacher collected candy. Teacher distributed an equal amount of candy to each person. Result: students all have the same amount of candy. Government ownership of property/industry Goal is to bring economic equality. Result: classless society. Essential question: Why do we have economies? How are different economies organized?

9 Students don’t want to play anymore – effectively sharing the candy. Teacher doesn’t have to supervise; students have chosen the result.
