1 2007 Set 13 Your group has been chosen to represent your school in a video competition organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The competition topic is Sport: the good, the bad and the unusual. You will need to discuss the benefits and disadvantages of taking part in sport, the different types of sport available to students and decide on the content of your video. You might also like to discuss any messages that you would like to convey to your audience through your video.

Prove one’s worth 6. Keep fit 7. Lose weight 8. Make friends C. Disadvantages of taking part in sport 1. Obsession -> injury 2. It could be boring especially doing individual sport 3. Combat sport -> dangerous 4. Some sports encourage gambling

4 C. Different types of sport 1. Team Sports e.g. basketball, volleyball, softball Advantages: More fun Interacting with friends Enhancing social skills Disadvantages: Need planning ( compromise with each other’s schedule) Need at least a certain number of people Limited choices

Racket sports e.g. badminton, tennis, squash Advantages: More challenging Interaction with friends Improve self-esteem It can become a healthy hobby Disadvantages: Need planning (compromise with each other’s schedule) Need at least a certain number of people Need to book the sports facility or field in advance. Limited choices

Water sport e.g. swimming, water polo, diving Advantages: It is a great sport to get a person into shape (water polo and etc.) It is a healthy and challenging sport Disadvantages: It is physically demanding Only limited number of public swimming facilities It is usually crowded with people It can be dangerous if preparation wasn’t done right

7 4. Combat sports e.g. boxing, fencing, karate Advantages: More challenging Improve self-esteem It is a excellent way to get into shape It can become a self-defense skill Disadvantages: It is a dangerous sport and it could be easily resulted in serious injury if players are not careful enough

8 5. Fusion Fitness ( e.g. swimming, gymnastics, martial arts, belly dancing, disco yoga) Advantages: It is a great way to get a person into shape It improves self-esteem Disadvantages: It is physically demanding It can be dangerous if preparation wasn’t done right There are limited choices
