A Sequential Transmission Manual transmissions often feature a driver- operated clutch and a movable gear selector. Most automobile manual transmissions allow the driver to select any gear at any time. A.k.a. Serial Transmission Formal Definition… The sequential transmission of the signal elements of a group representing a character or other entity of data. Note: The characters are transmitted in a sequence over a single line, rather than simultaneously over two or more lines, as in parallel transmission. The sequential elements may be transmitted with or without interruption. Sequential manual transmissions only allow the driver to select the next-highest or next- lowest gear ratio.

Clutch & Clutch Basket Clutch provides a means of connecting the engine to the transmission A clutch is, essentially, a subcomponent designed to allow engagement or disengagement of the engine to the gearbox. Connection provided by clutch works on the principle of friction.
10
Shift Forks The Shift Forks move the slider-connected gears from gear to gear. The set of gear selector forks move to engage gears. Their significance lies mostly in their connection with the shifting drum.

Shift Drum Grooves a.k.a. Ratcheting Drum When shifting gears, you are essentially rotating a ratcheting drum. It is because of the drum that you shift in sequence. It achieves this by directly moving the gear selector forks via grooves cut into the drum, which in turn engage the gears.
