Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : Migration Overview: What we did well What we did well… A train the trainer module works well, especially with a large staff Don’t try to teach/learn everything in one sitting The trainers taught what they knew, acknowledging that some learning would happen on the job. The client is very complex and is designed to handle many complex searching and editing strategies, for many formats, in many publication patterns…

Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : Searching Searching overview Searching tips Phrase searching Copy & paste Pinned! What is pinning and how does it work?
16
Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : Searching tips Searching tips Command line searching derived searches are the same browse query words, phrases, or title phrases –word: individual words in a phrase »ti:organic gardening is a keyword search, not a phrase search »ti:“organic gardening” searches as a phrase
17
Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : More Searching tips Browse query continued title search uses equals sign instead of colon –does not search across subfields »sca ti= search will only search $a title phrase search also uses equals sign –searches across subfields –most specific results »pnw=james, henry 1843-1916
18
Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : More Searching tips Searching tips continued Keyword search use ? or # for wildcards, * for truncation –su:wom?n and history and new york/1990- –ti:librar* and su:fiction/2005 proximity searches use w or n (within 25 words) –ti:aluminum w2 wiring boolean searching –su:civil and war not battle/1970

42
Connecting with Connexion: The UGA Experience : To control or not to control? To control or not to control? UGA does not control headings in Connexion. Why not? It seems to be designed to help OCLC’s authority control, not that of its members It doesn’t fit well into our workflow
