JOURNAL QUESTION: Explanation: “Speak softly and carry a big stick” described Theodore Roosevelt’s foreign policy in the early 1900s. Through this “Big Stick Diplomacy” he and future presidents bullied the rest of the Western Hemisphere with U.S. military and economic power. Journal Question: Imagine that you are a Latin or South American president and the U.S. President is threatening your country. What choices do you have to cooperate or oppose the U.S. president?
