1 The MBI aim to produce mtDNA COI sequence data for up to 5 specimens for at least 80% of all currently recognized mosquitoes (3,490 species ) within two years.

2 Activities 2007 March 2007: Fund raising dinner April 2007: SI & NHM May 2007: Rome June 2007: QSBG Thailand August 2007: Bishop Hawaii Species List Sept 2007: EMCA & Taipei MBI BARCODE RECORDS 2217 records = 390 species 19 genera (3015 = 570sp) (20.3% of 2780) *29 new taxa*

4 Mis-ID aconitus Sp. nov Unknown larvae Does barcoding work in Culicidae? Archive specimens are sequencing well, but need contigs of 2-3 fragments, potentially trebling the costs First sweeps have dealt with NHM & SI tissue & DNA banks, now working with collaborators worldwide to get maximum fresh material. Need to gee up collaborators to meet CBOL deadline MBI needs to keep costs down and speed up…..
