Learning Objective; To explore and analyse the conflicts and agreements between scientific and Christian views about the origin of the universe Learning Outcome; By the end of this lesson you will be able to reflect on your own views and those of others about the relationship between religion and science

3. In pairs, chose an object and look at it carefully using your hand magnifier. Consider the object carefully and then answer the questions on your worksheet.

4. How did the universe begin? Was the universe created by God? Which of these questions expects a scientific answer and which expects religious one? Can you explain how these questions are different? Now considering what you have learned in the activity and previous lessons, do you think that there is evidence to suggest that science and religion are in conflict?

5. A Class Debate on the motion: “This house believes that science has answered all our questions about the universe so we don’t need religious ideas to help us understand it”

6. You are arguing from three different points of view; A Christian who does not accept a scientific view A scientist who is a Christian A non religious scientist You will be allocated a point of view. In your groups you should appoint one person who is going to speak for or against the motion for around 4 minutes. The rest of your group will prepare short speeches (1-2 minutes) To support the key speaker. At the end of the debate a vote will be taken and the motion will be carried or defeated.

7. Homework Write an answer of around 150 words to the following question. How is it possible to believe in both evolution and God?
