You will find your submitted lesson under the “Lessons in Action” section. Create an arts-integrated lesson using the A+ Lesson Plan Template. Make sure to include your name, your school name, your grade/discipline and your email. Also include anyone you collaborated with to create the lesson as well as their grade/discipline and email. Teach your lesson to your students. Take a photo of at least 1 student product for submission with your lesson. Additional photos of student work, or of students participating in the lesson may also be included. Links to videos (uploaded to youtube) are also welcome. Reflect on the lesson, thinking about what worked and what needed revision. Tweak the lesson plan as needed based on your actual teaching of the lesson. Share lesson with a colleague (or two) at your school for feedback. Include their feedback on your lesson plan if it makes sense to do so. Finalize your lesson plan, making sure that all sections of the template are fully completed. If there are handouts, web links, books, special materials or other resources that you used in the lesson, please make sure to include that information as well. Keep in mind that you want your lesson documented so that any other A+ teacher could try your lesson (with adaptations as needed) with their students. They will need all of the background information and resources that you needed. Submit your lesson plan with any supporting materials (handouts, photos, video links, resource materials, web links, etc.) to michelle.burrows@ncdcr.govmichelle.burrows@ncdcr.gov Note: If any part of your lesson comes from a source outside of yourself, please include any crediting information as necessary. Please do not include copyrighted material in your lessons.

30 Purpose The Teacher Opinion Survey (TOS) was developed to document and describe educators’ opinions and attitudes about: –The A+ process –Ways that arts in education can impact student attitudes and academic performance –Importance of teaching the arts as a separate discipline –Role of the teacher in arts instruction –Level of collaboration in their schools

31 OKA+ commissioned the survey 38 attitude items measuring the following constructs (scales) –Student Outcomes –Collaboration –Teacher as artist –Arts as a Separate Discipline 2014 Responses were made according to a Likert scale –1 = Strongly Agree –2 = Agree –3 = Disagree –4 = Strongly Disagree First electronic administration in 2014

33 Survey Item Mean 6. Teachers are encouraged to be creative at my school. 1.63 32. Arts integration aids in the goal of students loving to learn. 1.73 37. The arts integrated into the total curriculum promote learning across subject boundaries. 1.75 38. It is logical to teach themes, ideas, and concepts holistically across all subjects in the curriculum including the arts. 1.75 9. Harris)... just tremendous –All of us are supporters of the arts... –Arts are at the very core of what it is we are about…the state has a rich history in this area with the school of the arts and the museums and even at the local level. –The research is clear, if we are going to achieve…the skills that we are trying to insure every student gets… If we are going to achieve that vision, mission and goals…then arts have to be integrated within that larger picture.“
