Bring In the Bus Both transportation education & Common Core Standards are intended to provide students with the knowledge & skills needed to succeed in post-school life

What are Common Core Standards? Academic standards in mathematics & language arts/literacy Learning goals outline what a student should know/be able to do following each grade Created to ensure all students graduate from high school with skills & knowledge necessary to succeed in college, career & life, regardless of where they live

How Do the Standards Work? Grades K-8 Grade-by-grade standards exist in English language arts/ literacy & mathematics Grades 9-12 Standards are grouped into grade bands of 9-10 standards & 11-12 standards

Let’s Look At Some Numbers In terms of daily ridership, MBTA is the nation's 5th largest mass transit system (2010 census) Serves a population of 4,817,014 in 176 cities & towns with an area of 3,249 square miles Has 183 bus routes, including two Bus Rapid Transit lines, three rapid transit lines, five light rail lines, four trackless trolley lines & 13 commuter rail routes

Let’s Look At Some Numbers Fleet of 1,005 diesel & CNG buses, 32 dual mode buses, 28 electric trolley buses, 410 heavy rail vehicles, 200 light rail vehicles, 10 PCC streetcars, 90 commuter rail locomotives, 410 commuter rail coaches, 464 MBTA-owned specially equipped vans/sedans & 182 contractor-supplied specially equipped vans/sedans Average weekday ridership: 1.3 million
