R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 R2E Activities @ P1 3 B. Mikulec, M. Jeckel Installation and removal of pipes and UTA in UL14 finished. Laser scan done on 15/08. Installation and removal of pipes and UTA in UL16 started. Final pressure tests for UL14/16 and laser scan (UL16) planned for mid- September. Cabling activities in UL14/16 will be further advanced. new pipes in UL14 (after having solved some integration issues…)

R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 R2E Activities @ P5 4 B. Lefort EN/CV: The second part of the Piping work has started on 13th of August! (some minor delays expected, but installation brought forward to ease EN/EL.) Civil Engineering Long drillings are done. The metallic inserts junctions must be covered in order not to damage the water cooled cable. Short drilling will be finished by this Wednesday! Civil Engineering Safe Room is almost ready to receive the cabinets! The internal lightning installation will be finished these days (minor issue with doors) (+’a small ‘fire’ alarm)

R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 Integration & Checks 9 Detailed iteration of Integration Models Cross check of Installation Drawings Direct follow-up on site (visual, measuring, comparing, check, check, check) Regular survey scans fed back into 3D integration models Early identification of possible problems Update of models (‘as-built’) Synergy between the various players is VERY important Drawing offices Civil engineering Ventilation Electricity Transport Structures & Mechanics

R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 GS/SE Activities 10 J. Crespo Bisquert et al. Point 5 – Safe Room: Metallic structure + sandwich panel REI 120 – certified Few open points Point 5 – Drilling Activities: 4 x Ø450mm / 16m long Double shift - 6 weeks (on time!) Vertical accuracy: 10 cm Point 7 – Wall Demolition and Ventilation Ducts removal 2 x 217 m dismantled ducts (video)video total length of cuts: 3600 m 34720 kg of steel evacuated 235 m wall demolition (125 m3 of concrete) 5 days with some “lift out of order” issues From 14h to 22h: 7 weeks … 3 in advance! 1200 m 2 painting

R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 Cooling (P1, P5, P7, P8): new piping design for relocated equipment and CV units chilled water for ventilation units demineralised water for power converters and water cooled cables Ventilation: new ventilation units @ point 5 (UL557) and 7 (TZ76) dedicated to relocated racks strong design effort in order to cope with integration issues (available space, transport constraints) as well as thermal loads. Integration and installation drawings: after initial problems, installation drawings are prepared at CERN detailed follow-up required (also for ‘as-built’) Schedule: planning continuously adapted to on-site worksite constraints shorter implementation time allows gaining time (e.g., P1) EN/CV Activities 11 P. Valente et al. EN/CV, EN/MEF, EN/HE

R2E Status Report 18 th LSC Meeting, August 18 th 2013 EN/EL Activities 12 J.C. Guillaume et al. EN/EL is soon critical activity in all R2E Points (Point-5 most critical) All activities are well prepared Additional support provided for injectors (RadMons!) and agreement for P4! In summary: Well in line with planning (many already with slight advance) 2 nd phase crucial (signal cables only: 160km total, 1550 cables) Water cooled cables will be delivered earlier (16 mid-Oct) [prototype tested at factory]
