TUNL Review – Dec. 8/9, 2014 What is Nuclear Data? 3 … too applied for basic physics …too academic for applied physics Generally: any result produced in a NP experiment can qualify Historically: associated with neutron cross sections and fission like applications

TUNL Review – Dec. 8/9, 2014 TUNL Evaluation Activities 6 We are responsible for nuclear structure evaluation in the A=2-20 mass region Energy Levels of Light Nuclei reviews published in Nucl. Phys. A –Follow style of Fay Ajzenberg-Selove –Broad scope of reactions is included – discussion format. –Adopted levels/gammas, energy level diagrams Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF) for A=2-20 –More rigorous information required –Better documentation of original sources –Evaluate reaction data sets/decay data sets –Deduce adopted levels/gammas, decay widths, etc. eXperimental Unevaluated Nuclear Data Library (XUNDL) A=2-20 –ENSDF style compilation of current literature Web interface for A=3-20 Information

TUNL Review – Dec. 8/9, 2014 ENSDF database plays a seminal role in scientific discoveries & many applications the only nuclear structure database that is updated continuously contains level properties & decay radiations for ALL nuclei coordination is supported by NNDC and the IAEA/NSDD network experimentally based Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File 8 No viable alternative exists in the world! ENSDF RADWARE NUBASE Basic NP Research NuDat astrophysics IEIE Monte-Carlo Codes MCNP, GEANT, EGS4, ORIGEN, CINDER90 Simulations MIRDRIPL ORTEC & CANBERRA Applications ENDF, JEFF, JENDL … RNAL PGAA
