How to respiratory system works Cellular respiration uses oxygen to release energy from glucose Your brain sends signals to your chest and abdominal muscles to contact and relax which controls the rate The breathing process moves in the chest to bring air into and remove waste from the lungs

Major Parts in respiratory system and its functions Trachea, larynx, lungs, vocal cords, diaphragm Trachea- from the larynx air moves into the trachea Larynx-is the airway to which two pairs of horizontal folds of tissue vocal cord- to protect the airway from chocking on material in the throat Diaphragm-is the main muscle of the respiratory system the and it separates the chest from the thoracic Epiglottis- it projects obliquely upwards behind the tongue and the hyoid
