About My Book The name of my book is, “The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things. The author of my book is Carolyn Mackler.
3
The Plot The plot of this story is pretty much simple. This story is about a girl who deals with life decisions. She also has trouble with her weight and her popularity level, she can’t tell her real troubles to her best friend, because she moves away.
4
Point Of View Discussion I think the point of view in this story is told from the 1 st person because she tells her story about her life and it is told from her perspective of how she felt going through her decisions.
5
Conflicts There are lot of conflicts she deals with. Her weight she deals with also with her parents. Her popularity level compared to her brothers. She don’t like looking in the mirror at herself, so she doesn’t know how she truly looks. Her decisions on whether she should take it farther in her relationship with her boyfriend. Her friend moves away so she doesn’t really have someone to be there for her, that she can rely that she can tell anything to. She has to deal with a lot of family issues when she finds out that her brother date raped someone in college, and he has to come back home and she has to face her brother.

Main Characters Mr. Shreve & Mrs. Shreve ( Dad, Mom) Tries to help their daughter with her weight. Mrs. Crowley (9 th Grade English Teacher) Talks to Virginia when she has troubles but doesn’t talk to her about everything she goes through. Shannon (Best Friend) Virginia’s best friend who moves away to Walla, Walla, but talks to her on online chats. Byron (Brother) Virginia visits him, and he soon moves back from college. Froggy (boyfriend) Virginia’s boyfriend that is with her throughout thee book most of the time.

Literary Devices Virgina uses different kinds of literary devices throughout the book, for instance she uses symbolism. She always compares herself to being a fat girl so she has to do certain things at school according to her “Fat Girl Code Conduct.” Basically it tells her what she can do and what she can’t do in front of others to her boyfriend. She uses foreshadowing too when she remembers her and her brothers lives when her brother was younger on what crazy recipes she made with him.

My Likes and Dislikes About My Book My likes about this books is that it tells a lot on what she’s dealing with. My dislikes on the other hand the book ends like a short story in a way, because she doesn’t tell what details happens next in the story at the end. I really don’t like short stories, so that might be the problem I have with this book at the end.
9
My Recommendations My recommendations for people who has weight problems or relationship problems with family or boyfriend relationships, is to read this book because it tells you a lot about the troubles you might experience or have experienced before.
