WWII Fighting Planes & Technology (1939- 1945) By Aaron C. Jefferson

Different Countries that use Fighter Plane in WWII American ● F4F Wildcat ● P-38 Lightning Japanese ● A6M Zero ● B5N Kate German ● Ju88 fighter bomber ● Ju-87 Stuka British ● Spitfire American ● P-47 Thunderbolts ● B-29 Super fortress

A closer look at the air planes used in WWII The F4F Wildcats was upgraded from the F4F-2 that was made in 1937. The F4F was the first fighter to enter service with a two-stage, two-speed supercharger and two inter-coolers. It was used during “Battle of Atlantic” (1939-1945). The F3F with thru a series of changes to improve a newer model (F4F) It included folding wings, six machine guns, improved armor, and self- sealing fuel tanks. In comparison with F43's these improvements slightly hampered the newer version of the F4F-4's performance, they improved pilot survivability and increased the number that could be carried aboard American aircraft carriers. –

Continued......... Japanese A6M Fighter Plane Entering service in 1940, the A6M became known as the Zero based on its official designation of Type 0 Carrier Fighter. In early 1940, the first A6M2, Model 11 Zeros arrived in China and quickly proved themselves as the best fighter in the conflict. Fitted with a 950 hp Nakajima Sakae 12 engine, the Zero swept Chinese opposition from the skies. With the new engine, the aircraft exceeded its design specifications and a new version with folding wingtips, the A6M2, Model 21, was pushed into production for carrier use.

How was the technology changed for air planes during WW2? In 1939-1945, during the WW2, the air plane industry was the single largest in the world and rise up from the 41st place to-- first among-- the industries in the United States.

Technology Change During WW2, the airplane industry greatest accomplishment were the ability to make large quantities of various design, produce, and service new combat aircraft after the war started. For examples: the B-29 Superfortress, A-26 Invader, P-51 Mustang, P-61 Black Widow, F6F Hellcat, and P-47 were newly designed and produced during the war.

Technology Change cont...... lighter aircraft production moved to making war planes worked as subcontractors, produced aircraft designed by other companies, and built military versions of their civilian designs design fleets that had versatile and maneuverable planes for front-line service in liaison work, observation, artillery spotting, and evacuation of the wounded produced drab olive versions of light planes for transporting officers and important wartime personnel produced flight trainers for crews of larger transports and bombers
