2 OUR MISSION School Leaders For Colorado, Inc. is dedicated to the recruitment, training and development of traditional and non- traditional school leaders and leadership teams in a quality alternative principal licensure program that allows school districts to find home grown choices in leaders.

3 Our mission objectives are: To recruit a dynamic & diverse pool of qualified individuals to be school principals; To develop a new home grown breed of school principal willing to be publically measured and rewarded for performance; and To partner with school districts to fit the school leader to the culture of leadership in the school district school.

4 OUT WITH THE OLD WAYS In 2002, the Colorado Legislature, in SB 152 by Senator John Evans, ended “credentialing program” and replaced it with a performance based teacher and principal preparation program; In 2004, the Colorado Legislature, empowered the Colorado Department of Education to develop the alternative principal preparation; and School Leaders for America, Inc. has a working agreement with the Department of Education to implement the program for non- traditional leaders as well as traditional candidates.

5 In 2003, Dr. Evans assembled a “team” that created a new vision for a principal training program: Dr. Cal Frazier, Former State Commissioner of Education; Dr. Jerry Wartgow, Former Denver School Superintendent; Dr. John Evans, Former Professor of Educational Administration, State Board of Education Member, and State Senator; Chancellor Dan Ritchie, Formerly of the University of Denver and President of DCPA; Dr. Pat Grippe, Former Associate School Superintendent Douglas County Schools; Dr. David Hartenbach, Former Superintendent of Aurora Public Schools; and Dr. Bill Maloney, Former Colorado Commission of Education.

9 What is the cost? Tuition: $3,850 dollars per semester; Coaching Fee: $600.00 per semester; Principal License after a performance based 32 credit hours; & Graduate credit with the University of Colorado, Denver.

10 What does a performance standard look like? The principal is knowledgeable about the elements of planning; plan implementation and organizational, change and time management. The principal will be able to: “Identify stakeholders who will be involved with the development of the school accountability plan and work with them to establish a statement of purpose to meet required standards, allocate resources and identify the elements of the plan as listed.”
