2 INTRODUCTION The tenants of this lesson find their basis in scripture. In particular do we spring board together from James 2:14-26. The intended encouragement is to suggest that the faith that James suggest from the text is a faith that must be couple with works. Otherwise he (James) suggest that such faith is dead and or useless! Let us together consider three areas of concentration concerning faith: FAITH THAT WORKS, FAITH THAT OBEYS, & FAITH THAT CONTINUES.

3 1. Faith that works A. Faith alone is: 1. An imperfect faith (James 2:22) 2. A faith that does not justify (James 2:24) 3. A faith that cannot save (James 2:14) B. Works that don’t save are: 1. Works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21) 2. Works of the Law (of Moses) a. Romans 3:28, Romans 4:9-14, Rom. 9:30-32, Galatians 2:16, Philippians 3:9 (The aforementioned do not save!)

4 2. Faith that obeys A. Faith that obeys through / via / by Christ 1. See Romans 3:27, 31, Galatians 6:2. B. Saving faith obeys the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 6:7, Romans 1:5, Romans 16:26) C. Obedient belief / faith begins ones journey into faithfulness (Mark 16:16, Matt. 28:19-20).

5 3. Faith that continues A. One must continue in faith & working: 1. See Acts 14:22, Romans 11:22, Col. 1:23, 1 Tim. 2:15. 2. Striving, serving, and sacrifice (Philippians 1:27, Phil. 2:17). B. We must live by faith (Romans 1:17, Galatians 2:20, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). 1. Examples noted in Hebrews 11: Abel 11:4, Noah 11:7, Abraham 11:8, Moses 11:27. C. It CAN’T be done without faith! (Hebrews 11:6) D. Jesus Christ is our example (Hebrews 12:1-2). E. We are promised reward on the condition of faithfulness! (Revelations 2:10)
