Hawaii Creole English: Pidgin Pidgin is a beautiful, expressive language. It was originally created so that the immigrants, the Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Filipinos as well as the Hawaiians and the Americans could do business. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJvu6_MJon M&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7X9AAeDCr 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7X9AAeDCr 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNCI2W_mq UQ&feature=related

Literature Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers is a Japanese American-Hawaiian-Adult Fiction novel by Lois- Ann Yamanaka. Its tonality is distinctive to that of a local Hawaiian culture in that all the main characters speak in Hawaiian Pidgin. Although it is an adult fiction novel, the plot follows a young Japanese girl throughout her years in middle school. The major themes of the novel include comparing a mother-daughter relationship with a father-daughter one, finding one's identity, and the politics of Japanese Hawaiian culture in a white America.Lois- Ann YamanakaHawaiian Pidgin

Hawaii Food Poke: usually made with ahi (the Hawaiian word for yellowfin tuna), basically it's a raw fish salad, usually flavored with soy sauce, sesame oil, kukui nut, and seaweed.

Loco Moco Breakfast is more commonly Portuguese sausage, eggs, and rice. McDonalds restaurants in Hawaii have adopted it on the menu.

Plate Lunch usually consists of meat or fish with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad

LauLau LauLau is an authentic Hawaiian entree. It is made with exotic and delicious ingredients starting with either a pork (pork shoulder usually, not pork loin), chicken or vegetable filling, sometimes with a little bit of rich and flavorful salted butterfish. Each lau lau filling is then individually wrapped in 6 to 7 taro leaves, sort of like Hawaiian spinach leaves. Once bundled in its many layers, the lau lau is firmly wrapped and tied inside 2 ti-leaves to form a pouch that seals the moisture and unique flavors of the taro leaves, fillings, and seasonings.

Typical Hawaiian Food

Poi Poi is the fermented paste of the taro root. It is naturally gluten free and contains plant-based microorganisms that have been proven by research to be safe and highly beneficial. It is also considered to be one of the most digestible foods on earth and has been recently shown in research to kill cancer cells in the colon.

Luau A traditional Hawaiian feast with authentic Hawaiian food served buffet style with Hawaiian music, hula dancers, and other entertainment to enjoy.

Ukulele Ukuleles are commonly associated with music from Hawaii where the name roughly translates as "jumping flea", perhaps due to the action of one's fingers playing the ukulele resembling a "jumping flea". According to Queen Lili'uokalani, the last Hawaiian monarch, the name means “the gift that came here”, from the Hawaiian words uku (gift or reward) and lele (to come). Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on two small guitar- like instruments of Portuguese origin, the cavaquinho and the rajao, introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by Portuguese immigrants One of the most important factors in establishing the ukulele in Hawaiian music and culture was the ardent support and promotion of the instrument by King David Kalakaua. A patron of the arts, he incorporated it into performances at royal gatherings. The white sandy beach http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_YfyKahP-0

Clothes Aloha shirts: Traditional men's aloha shirts manufactured for local Hawaiian residents are usually adorned with traditional Hawaiian quilt designs, tapa designs, and simple floral patterns in more muted colors. Semi-formal functions such as weddings, birthday parties, and dinners are often designated as "Aloha Attire", meaning that men wear Aloha shirts and women wear muumuu or other tropical prints. Because Hawaii tends to be more casual, it is rarely appropriate to attend such functions in full evening wear like on the mainland; instead, Aloha Attire is seen as the happy medium between excessive formality and casual wear.
