So, where do we go from here? In the previous lesson (“Does God Exist?”), we established the principle of logic called the “Law of the Excluded Middle.” Simply stated, it says that a thing either is, or is not; that there is no “middle ground.” We showed how this applies to God: that He either is, or is not and that there really is no “middle ground” on which stand between these two. We also looked at “Cause and Effect” as it relates to the observable Universe, and established that God is the only adequate Cause sufficient to have produced it because: 1) Matter, and therefore the Universe, is not eternal; 2) It did not spontaneously generate itself from nothing; and 3) it was therefore created by Something both anterior and superior to it. This is Cause and Effect from Heb.3:4.

Psalm 14:1-6 “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” But the opening verse also says, “They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no one who does good.” Surely David uses hyperbole- there were some who were not fools and who did not commit abominable deeds. But the underlying truth is that Atheism has consequences and effects- both for the subscriber to it, as well as those influenced and affected by him- hence (again), Cause and Effect.
3
What then are the Effects which Atheism Causes? One the greatest needs of our present society is a healthy dose of ACCOUNTABILITY, and it is high time that Atheism (whether active or benign) be held accountable for that which it has caused! I am tired (and sick!) of Believers in God being blamed for the ills of society when it is an overwhelming lack of belief in God that is actually responsible! So let’s set the record straight: Are there examples of supposed Christians doing horrendous things? Absolutely! But, most of them are also mentally unstable. It is not their “religion” which has produced the atrocious act, it is the mental deficiency and illness, cf. 1Tim.1:3-11.
4
What then are the Effects which Atheism Causes? Read Romans 1:18-23. This passage accurately describes the mindset of most of our society- Atheistic either in mind or practice! So what effect does this mindset/belief system of Atheism cause? So what effect does Atheism cause? See Romans 1:24-32. The scourge of homosexuality which destroys lives, homes, families, and godly society, vv.24-28. Depravity of mind; improper, unrighteous, wicked, greedy, malicious, envious, murderous, deceitful, slanderous, hateful, insolent, arrogant, boastful, evil, rebellious, non-sensical, untrustworthy, disobedient, unloving, unmerciful acts worthy of death, vv.29-32!

It makes absolutely no sense or logic to: Blame Christianity, and therefore believers in God, for the ills of a society in which the principles by which they live are violated, Isaiah 5:20-21! It is not Christianity which gives us: The killing of the innocent unborn by the millions each year. You can be tracked and shot on sight for poaching the horns of Black Rhino, but can get a government paid abortion while underage without your parents even being notified! Rom.1:23 So-called “natural disasters” which cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars in damage each year. Atheism did it! How? It did not even rain, let alone storm, prior to the flood, Gen.2:6-7 > 6:5-7,17 > Heb.11:7! Atheism caused the first, and therefore subsequent, “natural disasters” not believe in God!
6
The Cause of Atheism also produces the Effect of Idolatry in all its forms. Since “idolatry” by definition is the worship of and servitude to anything other than God, Atheism must be the Cause of this Effect! Belief in God cannot produce idolatry or its subsequent consequences, cf. Gal.4:8 and Rom.1:23. What kind of Idolatry results from Atheism? 1.Man’s infatuation with, and worship of himself, Rom.16:18; Phil.3:18-19. 2.Materialism, in all its forms, 1Tim.6:9-10! 3.Sensuality (the absence of restraint of our sensual desires), Eph.4:17-19. Now ask yourself this question: How much of the pain, hardship, and suffering in life can be traced to man’s worship of himself, man’s materialism, and man’s pursuit of sensual pleasures? Atheism is the cause of these effects!
7
Conclusion? Our society, as long as it continues to deny God’s existence and sovereignty, will continue to suffer the effects of our Atheistic beliefs and practices. In essence, we are reaping exactly what we are sowing, Gal.6:7-8! The solution is, as so many are heard to say albeit in the wrong connection, “education.” Not the diplomas and degrees of academia (cf. 1Cor.1:20-23) but education which produces a firm belief that “God not only exists, but that He will judge the world by the word He has given us through His Son!” John 12:48 & 2Cor.5:10
