Texas Politics Changes Sweeping changes occurred in Texas politics over the last half-century. Not all Texans welcomed the social and political changes that came out of the 1960s. After nearly a century in the hands of all white men the Democratic Party in Texas entered a period of dramatic change in the 1970s. Soon growing participation by minorities and women would usher in a new era in state government.
