3  Role Delineation Studies (RDS) were undertaken in 2005 and 2009-2010  The primary result of the 2010 “Role Delineation Study” (RDS) is to update the PMP ® examination  The PM Role has changed in the following Domains:  Substantial differences in updated PMP ® role  New task in the updated PMP ® role  Minor differences in updated PMP ® role  Covered in new Task  Domain 01 Initiating the Project  Domain 02 Planning the Project  Domain 03 Executing the Project  Domain 04 Monitoring and Controlling the Project  Domain 05 Closing the Project

4 Joseph Pignato PMP, MCPM, PMI R.E.P.  Although Many of the Domains, tasks, knowledge, and skills outlined by the PMP ® Examination Content Outline are also covered by the PMBOK ® Guide, there are some that are unique to the PMP Examination Outline.  Candidates studying for the examination will certainly want to include the PMBOK ® Guide as one of their references, and would be well advised to read other current titles on project management. An excellent source of these titles, used in PMP examination development, is found in the PMI Member resource eReads and Reference.

 What are the major differences from the new exam to the old exam?  A: Approximately 30% of the content on the PMP ® examination is new or has substantial changes to reflect the role as defined by the RDS. This resulted in existing items being updated as appropriate, new examination items being developed to meet these requirements, and old items which do not meet the criteria being retired.  A: Certain areas of the examination need to be tested in a different way because it was seen to be common across all content areas of the examination. Specifically, the Professional and Social Responsibility content area (Domain 6) will now be tested in every domain rather than as a separate domain on the examination. As such, PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is now integrated into the day-to-day role of a project manager, emphasizing its importance in each phase of the project lifecycle.  The new PMP ® examination content was released 31 August 2011  The update of the examination for the new RDS does not affect the PMBOK ® Guide, therefore candidates should continue to study the Fourth Edition, as well as other current project management titles. Joseph Pignato PMP, MCPM, PMI R.E.P. 5

6  The recent Project Management Professional (PMP) ® Role Delineation Study (RDS) reconfirmed the role of a project manager as being responsible for all aspects of the project for the life of the project. Both our 2005 and 2009-2010 Role Delineation Studies (RDS) found that the PMP © was intended for individuals performing the role of a project manager.  After the 2009/2010 RDS, PMI updated numerous materials to reflect the evolution of the role as one who “leads and directs projects” versus before 17/04/2012, the project management experience was required to be “leads and directs project tasks”.  It is also important to point out that, as part of this process, PMI has clarified the information requested in the PMP application. With this clarified application language, PMI is now asking PMP applicants to provide:  The project objectives,  Their role on the project,  Key deliverables and outcomes by Process Group, and,  Specific examples of how they led and directed each project.  Due to the nature of the clarifications being made and systems involved, it will take until the end of May 2012 to complete these verbiage clarifications. Should you receive an inquiry or request for information regarding PMP eligibility, please be cognizant of this clarification to language requiring a candidate to possess experience leading and directing projects, as well as the requested application description to go into place.

8 This eligibility criteria was supported by the 2010 PMP RDS, which went into effect August 2011, and has been used operationally since that time.

9 Joseph Pignato PMP, MCPM, PMI R.E.P.  The RDS update on 31 August 2011 did not affect the PMBOK ® Guide in any way. Along with other project management texts and standards, the PMBOK Guide – Fourth Edition continues to be the version used as part of the development of PMP examination questions.  The latest eligibility requirements are always reflected in the PMP ® Handbook http://www.pmi.org/en/Certification/~/media/PDF/Certifications/pdc_p mphandbook.ashx http://www.pmi.org/en/Certification/~/media/PDF/Certifications/pdc_p mphandbook.ashx  The Q&A’s for the PMBOK ® Guide http://marketplace.pmi.org/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?GMProduct=0010 1133801 This is a set of actual exam questions developed for the PMP exam which were not used in the actual PMP exam which are aligned to the 4 th edition PMBOK ® Guide, however they are not associated with the PMP ® role delineation. They are under exam prep because many people use it to get more familiar with the PMBOK ® Guide which is one of the references for the PMP ® exam. You will appreciate the “ Q & As for the PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition for it’s ability to test your skill and knowledge THE PMBOK GUIDE

 FIFTH EDITION CHANGES - the Scope of Update  FIFTH EDITION Glossary draft  The PMBOK Guide 5 th Edition was released on January 1 st 2013  An advance copy will be sent to PMIR.E.P.s so they can update training materials  The PMP Exam will be updated according to the PMBOK 5 th Edition Mid-Year 2013 (June 31 st ) Joseph Pignato PMP, MCPM, PMI R.E.P. 10
