Most Europeans believed Ptolemy’s theory of the universe ◦ He said the earth was the center of the universe. By the 1500’s, scientists began to question earlier findings. ◦ Nicolas Copernicus: developed heliocentric theory (sun centered universe) ◦ Earth and other planets then revolve around the sun. Galileo built the first telescope able to see the planets: He confirmed this heliocentric theory.
