2 person team: The person who slams it cannot dunk it. Work together on putting response together 3-4 person team: One person slams it, another person dunks it, and the other person(s) will tell the group what they think the answer is. Then team will formulate response and dunk it. TL may assigned one person to dunk it for every question. All other responsibilities must rotate. Slam Dunk the Lesson Slam it by reading the sections of the textbook aloud Dunk it by writing a group response to questions.

What is radiation? What types of radiant energy does Earth get from the sun? What does Earth convert visible light to? What is another name for thermal energy?

Can you see ultraviolet (UV) light? How is excess exposure to UV radiation harmful? How is the wavelength infrared radiation (IR) different than UV.

Does the Earth absorb all of the Sun’s energy? What must visible light be converted to before it can be absorbed by Earth?

What percent of solar radiation is absorbed by Earth’s surface? What percent is reflected by clouds and particles? What percent is absorbed by particles in the atmosphere? What percent os reflected by land and sea surfaces?

How much of the incoming radiation from the Sun is reflected back into space?

Why doesn’t the Earth keep on getting hotter and hotter?

What do greenhouse gasses do in your atmosphere? List 3 greenhouse gasses?

Explain how the illustration on the left shows the greenhouse effect? Explain how the illustration on the right shows the greenhouse effect?

Do objects have to be in contact for heat to transfer from one object to another through convection?

Explain how the person’s hand is being heated by convection?

How are air circulation patterns in the atmosphere created?

Describe the difference between stable and unstable air?

Explain how the clouds are forming in this picture.

Explain how a temperature inversion can cause air pollution.

Vocab Concept PowerPoint Complete vocab concept PowerPoint. Rotate responsibilities each slide. Be prepared to present PP to class In addition to doing the PowerPoint, team of 3 must write the definitions on a separate sheet of paper. Team of 4 must also write definition and on another paper, make a true or false question pertaining to the slide.

Radiation Defined: Explain how illustration shows radiation:

Conduction Defined: Explain how illustration shows conduction:

Convection Defined: Explain how illustration shows convection:

Stability Defined: Explain how illustration shows convection:

Find an illustration that shows how global warming occurs. Then in this box, explain how is occurs:

Find and paste below an image that shows how warm air rises and how cool air sinks.

Is all the sun energy absorbed by the Earth? If not, what happens to it? Find an image similar to the one on page 387 and paste it below.
