Proper Disposal of contaminated items Regulated Waste Regulated waste is any waste possibly contaminated with blood or OPIM including contaminated sharps (P&I 200-2, 12.0) The price of disposal of regulated waste is so expensive; it has been noted that many items are non-contaminated. Non-contaminated items may go into the general trash. Next time you go to dispose of disposable medical supplies or PPE – ask this question – is this item truly contaminated? Example: gloves. Just because you put them on, does not automatically deem them contaminated.
