Design Vision To provide children an opportunity to evoke an intellectual consciousness about recycling through an exploration of relevant learning about recycling products through the use of technology and gaming. Purpose To encourage children to be aware of the possible effects of not recycling and also to allow them to demonstrate proper recycling of plastic products, which can make a difference in our environment.

Design Objectives The learner will be able to identify a recycling product – plastic bottles; The learner will be able to explain why they should recycle; and, The learner will match plastic products in the disposal container.

Design Concept To provide a fun, educational game about recycling plastic bottles Audience 9-12 year old children in Detroit who know little about recycling Genre Instructional Theme To promote a healthier environment through recycling

Design Rules & Scoring The participant will play a maze game to learn about recycling plastic bottles. They will gain points for collecting plastic bottles in a recycling bin. A trash container will chase the recycling bin while the participant tries to collect bottles.

Evaluation Sequence 1.Short group meeting to explain what we are doing and answer questions 2.Respondents assigned to a work station and rotated from station to station 3.Each respondent participated in online survey 4.Observed children playing between evaluators 5.Focus group of evaluators and participants

Focus Group Comments The participants suggested names- Happy Earth, Earthy Happy They experienced unclear or confusing levels of the game and scores were inconsistent with increasing levels The 15 year old would NOT recommend the game to 8 th grade or higher. They were observed in engaging discussions amongst themselves about their game experience and teasing each other (typical)
