2  A spreadsheet is an interactive computer program used for calculations  It is made up of rows and columns  Rows go across and are named with numbers  Columns go down and are named with letters  Where a row intersects a column, this is called a cell Spreadsheets

3  Each cell is made up of the column letter and row number for e.g. A21 or C16  Examples of spreadsheet software are Excel, Lotus 123 & Open Office Calc  Spreadsheets use formulas in calculations  All formulas must start with an equal sign =

4  Analysing data into charts and graphs  Predicting trends in a business  Working out a household budget/ students’ exam grades and percentages  Holding large amounts of financial data  Calculating numerical data quickly across worksheets Spreadsheet uses

6 To add the contents of cell A1 ( 25 ) and cell B1 ( 35 ), we can write a formula in cell C1 to do this. Type the following formula into cell C1 = A1 + B1 Press Enter Now try multiplying A1 and B1. What answer did you get? Example of a formula
