A spreadsheet is an interactive computer program used for calculations It is made up of rows and columns Rows go across and are named with numbers Columns go down and are named with letters Where a row intersects a column, this is called a cell Spreadsheets

Each cell is made up of the column letter and row number for e.g. A21 or C16 Examples of spreadsheet software are Excel, Lotus 123 & Open Office Calc Spreadsheets use formulas in calculations All formulas must start with an equal sign =

To add the contents of cell A1 ( 25 ) and cell B1 ( 35 ), we can write a formula in cell C1 to do this. Type the following formula into cell C1 = A1 + B1 Press Enter Now try multiplying A1 and B1. What answer did you get? Example of a formula
