2. What is hair? Protein filament that grows from follicles found in the dermis. Defining feature of mammals. All natural hair colors are the result of two types of hair pigments.

3. Why do we have hair? Homo Habilis: 1.5 – 2.1 million years ago Early humans had fur. This was lost after moving from forest to open savanna. The one exception was head hair.

4. What is the purpose of hair? Thermoregulation. Protection against UV light. Did you know…the world record for the longest hair is 18 ft 5.54 inches.

5. Hair Types Straight hair  Found further from equator  Allows more UV light to pass to the scalp
