How to be sure you will be a faithful disciple of Christ and will make faithful disciples.
2
1 Timothy 1:5-6 a pure heart a good conscience a sincere faith The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. Some people didn’t pay attention to some important things They wandered away from them They transformed their faith into meaningless talk.
3
These important things are: a pure heart a good conscience a sincere faith (without hypocrisy) These things are so critical that those who strayed from them have turned aside from faith to meaningless talk.
4
1 Timothy 1:18-20 to faith and a good conscience Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.
5
Things to hold on to: faithgood conscience. Timothy was to hold on to faith and to a good conscience. That is how he was supposed to fight the spiritual fight he was about to enter against spirits of deception and legalism in the Church in Ephesus. Those who rejected those things had shipwrecked their faith.
6
The Shipwreck of Faith Who qualify for that? Those who wandered away from these things transformed their faith into meaningless talk. Those who rejected those things have shipwrecked their faith.
7
WHICH THINGS AGAIN? 1 Tim. 1:5-6 1 Tim. 1:5-6 A pure heart A good conscience A sincere faith (without hypocrisy) 1 Tim. 1:18-20 1 Tim. 1:18-20 Faith Good conscience

The Boat of Your Life
9
Sailing in faith Imagine your life as a sailing boat. The name of the boat is FAITH. If you keep a pure heart and a good conscience, the boat of your faith will keep sailing steady. If you reject these things, your boat will suffer a shipwreck into APOSTASY, DECEPTION, REBELLION.
10
How to shipwreck your faith
11
1 Timothy 3:9 the deep truths of the faith a clear conscience They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. Keep hold of the deep truths of the faith clear conscience With a clear conscience
12
Keeping a good conscience is critical The instructions for deacons and elders also included that they should hold to their faith with a clear conscience. Paul took it very seriously for himself and for the elders of the church.
13
Acts 23- Paul before the Council 1 Paul, looking intently at the Council, said, “Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day.” (Acts 23:1) 16 In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men. (Acts 24:16)
14
1 I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, (Rom. 9:1) 5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. (Rom. 13:5)
15
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, (2 Tim. 1:3) 15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 16 ] and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who condemn your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.(1 Peter 3:15-16)
16
Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.

The shipwreck of faith
19
1 Tim. 4:2 consciences have been seared Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
20
Hypocrisy produces seared conscience Some people will obey and follow demon’s teachings because they will become hypocritical liars about the faith and their conscience will be seared as with a hot iron. The doors open for Satan to come with false teachings in their lives to the point they would listen to demon’s teachings were two: hypocrisy and seared conscience. They did not keep what Paul tells Timothy to keep (1:5).
21
What is a seared conscience? It is a conscience that becomes callous because of the hardness of the heart and because of ignorance. It is a conscience that tampers with sin and let hypocrisy come in the faith slowly until it becomes callous to the good conscience and to God’s Word. When God’s Word comes, the conscience will reject it.
22
Eph. 4:17-19 Having become callous So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having become callous, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
23
Rom. 2:14-16 their consciences also bearing witness (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the works of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
24
The CONSCIENCE Day There will be a day when God will judge the secrets of men through Jesus. He will then use their own consciences to judge them. God has written the principles of the Law of God in man’s consciences. Their consciences & their thoughts will bear witness against or in favor of them in that day.
25
How to shipwreck your faith
26
Phases of the shipwreck in regard to faith. 1 st phase: Men try to tamper with sin and their own consciences (where God’s principles and pure commandments are hidden by our own heart) Their consciences become contaminated and impure.
27
Phases of the shipwreck in regard to faith. 2 nd phase: Their hearts are hardened because of the acceptance of sin and the adjustment of their consciences to their sinful walk, which pleases their flesh.
28
Phases of the shipwreck in regard to faith. 3 rd phase: Their hearts become callous (insensitive). They do not feel the prompts, warnings and accusation of the consciences any more.
29
Phases of the shipwreck in regard to faith. 4 th phase: Their consciences become seared as with a hot iron. Their consciences do not recover any more.
30
STAGES OF APOSTASY 1) TAMPER WITH SIN 2) ADJUST TO THE SINFUL LIFESTYLE 3) I BECOME CALLOUS (INSENSITIVE) 4) MY CONSCIENCE IS SEARED
31
Cleanse your conscience a sincere heartfull assurance of faith to cleanse us from a guilty conscience Heb. 10:22- Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
32
The author of Hebrews also establishes the importance of having a sincere heart and faith and a conscience purified by the blood of Jesus. Sincere heart Faith Conscience purified
33
1 Pe. 3:21-22 the pledge of a good conscience toward God and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
34
What is this GOOD CONSCIENCE? It is so important that can keep us from sinking our faith: Good conscience= conscience informed or determined by the principles of God’s Word; by what God thinks is right or wrong. Sin affected our consciences in the sense that we want to do what is right on our own eyes and not on God’s eyes. We decide what is right or wrong.
35
GOOD & CLEAR Conscience God’s Word says THIS, so I am obeying God’s Word, so my conscience is CLEAN, even if I am being criticized.
36
Peter said: keeping a clear conscience, 1 Pe. 3:15-16: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
37
CLEAR Conscience I think it is OK to do what I think is right. I have chosen to do this, so my conscience is clear. I lie, because its OK to lie. Everybody lies. I steal, because everybody steals, so its OK. My husband did that to me, so its OK to do the same to him. My conscience is CLEAR.
38
HOW TO KEEP A GOOD CONSCIENCE? The real GOOD conscience is only good when: 1) It holds God’s Word and God’s principles for life as its moral values 2) I have to admit that only God’s thoughts and principles are RIGHT, and what He says is right is right; and what He says is wrong is wrong. On another words: do not fight against God, and do not tamper with sin.
39
HOW TO KEEP A CLEAR CONSCIENCE? The real CLEAR conscience is only clear when: 1) It is washed from the dirt or guilty by the blood of Christ. 2) We have to humble ourselves before the Lord, recognize what is the DIRT in the body of values we hold, repent, and let the blood of Jesus washes us from that dirt and guilt. 3) Let the Holy Spirit and the Word of God transform us. (Rom. 12)
