“Set Apart Christ as Lord” 1 Peter 3:13-22 November 29, 2009

I. We have the hope of being vindicated in this life (13-17) We have not need to fear the threats of the enemies of God. – Our suffering is temporary. – Our suffering results in blessing. We have an answer for our hope. – Our suffering gives us the opportunity to defend our faith. – Our answer is to be given with gentleness and respect.

Hebrews 9:28 “So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

II. We have the hope of eternal life in heaven (18-22) Christ died for sins once for all (18-19). – The righteous was put to death in His body for the unrighteous. – He died to bring us to God. Christ saved us by his resurrection (20-22) – Baptism symbolizes our salvation. – Baptism is a pledge of a good conscience toward God.

1 Corinthians 15:14 “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”
