WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 2 Question 1 How do you use open-source software in daily practice? Answer Case 1 : CNES software made opensource Case 2 : integration of plug-in or libraries which are used for the developement of other SW Done by contractors (CNES do not develop SW)

WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 3 Question 2 What repository do you use? What license ? Answer Repository : no rules A web site « Free software » exists But some opensources are available directly on forge like Github License : no rules – execpt avoiding contaminating license But in some cases, we use the license GPLV3 Example SITOOLS2 : in laboratories ; enhancements a reversed to the other laboratories

WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 4 Question 3 How does management at your agency encourage open source business practices? Answer There is no general encouragement Pragmatic decision Reduce the development cost, but not necessary the explitation cost (migration) CNES sotfware are not by default opensource Only when justified And if cannot be sold

WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 5 Question 4 What is your flagship open sourced application? What problems did you encounter along the way? For NASA, GIBS is probably the most popular one; they are trying to get ECHO and CMR into open source. WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 6 Question 5 Does your agency have intellectual property issues involving copyrights or code provenance? Ignoring legal issues with software is costly. Answer A priori An analysis is done on the software to be integrated, and we check the compatibility of the license with our developments A posteriori We have used Blackduck for all the CNES opensource software

WGISS - 40 CONTEXT 7 Question 6 Does your agency have legal controls and processes in place to deal with open source software? Answer There is a commission dedicated to brevet and software that meets every month
