VR Mission Statement To help people with disabilities find and maintain employment, and enhance their independence.

What is VR School to Work? It helps students who want to work become better prepared for life after high school and have meaningful careers. It can help students enter training, continue education, or find a job after leaving high school through various activities.

School to Work Activities A checklist of goals that help you move from school to adult life. Counseling to help prepare for employment. Discover possible career choices based on your needs, preferences and interests. Guidance through the hiring process until successfully employed.

Overview of Procedure 1. Apply for Services at least two years prior to finishing high school: ▫either at the end of your sophomore year or early in your junior year, or ▫two to three years before graduation or exit for students staying until age 22 ▫At age 16 and older, if you are or will be involved in a community work experience 2. Evaluation to Determine Eligibility ▫60 days Your physical or mental disability interferes with your ability to become employed. VR’s help is necessary for you to prepare for, gain or retain employment. If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for your disability, you are presumed eligible for VR services if you intend to become employed.

Services Everyone Receives Career Counseling & Guidance Job Placement Based on Individual Needs-some examples are: Medical & Psychological Assessment Vocational Evaluation & Planning Training & Education After High School Time-Limited Medical & Psychological Treatment Job Coaching On-the-Job Training Assistive Technology Work Incentives Planning & Assistance Services for Social Security Recipients

Your Responsibilities Maintain contact with VR counselor Participate in the development of the plan to achieve the job goal. Be on time and follow through with appointments. Be engaged in the job search. Do the best you can!

Getting a Job!! When you are ready for employment: ▫Help find job openings ▫Assist with creating a resume ▫Teach how to fill out job applications ▫Practice interviewing skills ▫Advocate at job to meet individual needs When employed for 90/150 days your case will be closed as a success.
