4 What do you know? 1. The definition of a person w/disability is “anyone with a physical impairment that limits the range of tasks they can accomplish.” 2. Employees w/disabilities have better records of punctuality, attendance, turnover - but are less productive than others 3. Society has always tried to rehabilitate, integrate persons w/ disabilities. 4. The large majority of persons w/disabilities, even those with severe disabilities, can become independent and productive. 5. Only about 30% of persons w/disabilities are currently employed. 6. The ADA requires employers to make special accommodation for the disabled, which is proving very costly for employers. 7. Job applicants w/disabilities must provide a medical history to potential employers. 8. If you see that a person w/disability needs help, give it at once.

9 Star, Service Dog 1. Questions manager should ask Tell me about Star’s training. What can we expect from her concerning nature calls, chewing, barking, similar issues? Where do you expect Star to stay during the day? By your desk? Designated area away from other employees? How will you arrange for Star to relieve herself during the day? If she must stay with you all day, how do you recommend that we introduce her to the office environment and the employees? What should we tell coworkers about how to treat Star? 2.
