2 CHARACTERISTICS OF AN AFRICAN LION! Vertebrate or Invertebrate? The African Lion is a vertebrate because they have a back bone. What Group is the animal in? The African Lion is a mammal because they have fur, give live birth, the females can produce milk for their young, and are warm-blooded.

3 HOW DO AFRICAN LIONS HAVE BABIES? They baby cub stays in the mother’s stomach for approximately 110 days. The mother can have one to four cubs at a time. When the cub is born, it drinks the mother’s milk until it is one years old. Afterwards, the one year old cub starts hunting with the family/pride.

4 WHAT DOES THE LION HAVE? The Male and Female The Male has a big mane going around their head. The rest of the males body is tan. The Females body is all tan and has no mane. Male Lion!

6 WHERE DO AFRICAN LIONS LIVE? The African Lion lives in the southern and eastern part of Africa. They live in the semi-arid plains and/or the Savannah grasslands.

7 WHAT DO AFRICAN LIONS EAT? They eat meat. Examples are zebras, buffalo, warthogs, deer, and occasionally elephants.

8 INTERESTING FACTS! 1.Lions are the only cats who live in prides. (group or family) 2.Female Lions are the ones to go hunting, while the males stay at home and protect the others. 3.Baby cubs do not help hunt until they are one year old and are prepared.
