Open source refers to a program or software in which the source code (the form of the program when a programmer writes a program in a particular programming language) is available to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design free of charge

Open Source Software is downloadable from many different sites. Sites that offer the product usually has a free downloadable place. Open Source Software can also be found for free most of the time.

 Many sites do offer free of charge downloadable software.  Large groups of programmers, usually not concerned with profit or ownership will produce a more useful and bug free product for everyone to use.

 1. SECURITY  A new software, recently discovered by Coverity Products, is closed to public view. No one outside the company that owns the software has the faintest clue how many bugs it contains.  2. QUALITY  Thousands of programmers create Open Source Software, so as them as the public using it, they can get it closest to what the public wants the software to be. This is the primary reason entrepreneurs choses Open Source Software.

 3. CUSTOMIZABILITY  Business owners can tweak Open Source Software to suit their needs.  4. FREEDOM  Businessmen free themselves from severe vender lock in-Customers of the venders are at the mercy of vendors vision. The venders can limit with what they do with the products they’re paying for.

 You can upgrade when want, not when the company wants you too.

 1. No single source to support all aspects of an application.  2. One must understand business logic to adjust configuration or make code adjustments  3. User assumes more “ownership”.  4. Difficult to engage support of venders with practical experience in supporting the application. 5. Difficult for smaller organizations to affect the resources individually
