The History of the Play Romeo and Juliet was adapted from a poem written two hundred years before Shakespeare came on the scene. There is also a legend that there were two young people that indeed ran away together, were hunted down, and did kill themselves before they were found. The Poem has more substantial evidence.

Shakespeare’s Contribution to the Language He invented 32,000 words. We use about 5,000 today. He invented: hot blooded, He invented phrases: Leapfrog is an example of a compound word invented by Shakespeare.
