NEWSLETTER Ms. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper Spelling / Vocabulary This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are from the Greek Roots Workbook Lesson 15. Test Friday! Locating Technical Skills Local Location Locomotion Relocate Technicality Technician Technique Technology Anchorage Public School Monday, April 15, 2013 Reading/Language/Writing Students will read “Building for Space Travel,” in their National Geographic series. Students will read nonfiction and understand scientific texts (RI.4.3). The language skill this week is prepositions with a review of adverbs. Book orders for April will go home today and are due Friday, April 19 th. Math This week in math we will be identifying and classifying polygons. Student will need to have their vocabulary definitions memorized. We will be working through our Study Guide throughout the week. On Tuesday, we will be setting our goals for the Math MAP test that we will be taking on Wednesday, the 17th. Finally, on Friday, we will look at line symmetry. Don't forget, the unit assessment will be coming up next Tuesday. After that, just one more unit: Measurement & Data. I am so proud of the amount of material these students have mastered this year! Science Students have been reading and experimenting with “Sound” and will begin “Light” on Monday. Students will have a quiz Thursday concentrating on vocabulary associated with “Light and Sound” from chapter 14. Vocabulary words include wavelength, frequency, compression, reflect, absorb, refract, transparent, translucent, and opaque. On Thursday, after the quiz, students will begin the study of force and motion. Social Studies This week in social studies we will continue studying the northeast. We will look at the steel mills in Pennsylvania and see how they use resources from other places to make steel. We will explore how machines have made fishing a safer way to earn a living. Finally, we will discuss how farmers in the northeast must make the best use of the land they have due to its scarcity. Students should be learning their states and capitals for the northeast. Students will have an opportunity to earn extra credit in Science by working the Study Island Assignment on Physical Science. There are 10 lessons. Points are awarded as follows: * 10 Completed lessons= +15 point * 10 Completed lessons with blue ribbons= +30 points. 2.INFINITE CAMPUS!
