Mexico’s National Commission for Energy Conservation “Private sector activities in domestic new and renewable energy technologies.” Diego Arjona Executive Secretary, CONAE Asia Pacific Economic Coopertation (APEC) New and Renewable Energy Technologies Expert Group Meeting. Twenty-Sixth Meeting. Auckland, New Zealand. April 2006.
2
What is expensive? The most expensive energy is the one that is not available. The cheapest energy is the one that we do not need to use. We need options to make a better use of our resources.
3
Parallel path for supply and demand. Energy prices have become a key issue in the national agenda of many countries. Efforts must be made to incorporate new energy projects. A parallel path must be established for the conservation of such energy resources.
4
The intelligent use of energy. Three vectors: Culture and awareness: reduce waste. Energy efficient technologies: increase efficiency and improve energy intensity. Small scale renewable energy: grid independent, solar, wind, etc.
5
Awareness: waste reduction. Actions combined from a six years program in PEMEX is now yielding results for 20 million barrels of oil per year. More than 7 days of national production.
6
Live with energy. Do not let it slip away.
7
National Campaign. There is no energy crisis in Mexico. Energy supply is secure. We believe that energy efficiency is a good business. The triggers for the National Campaign for the Intelligent Use of Energy are competitiveness and environmental protection.
