Questions to remember for set design: Is your set going to be naturalistic, impressionistic, or abstract? Why? Will your set have levels? How will the levels affect the playing space? What colors will you use for your set? What mood do you believe your chosen colors will establish? What sort of stage are you designing this set for?

“The Dining Room” By A.R. Gurney The play takes place in a dining room. We see a lovely burnished, shining dining room table; two chairs, with arms, at either end; two more, armless along each side; several additional matching chairs, placed so as to define the walls of the room. Upstage somewhere, a sideboard, with a mirror over it. Upstage, Left, a swinging door leads to the pantry and kitchen. Upstage, Right, an archway leads to the front hall and the rest of the house. There should be a good, hardwood floor, possibly parquet, covered with a good, warm oriental rug. Since there are no walls in the dining room, windows should be suggested by lighting.
