Piera Tortora - UNECE Statistical Division Slide 811-13 September, 2006 Surveys (2) An Example: India Method: Recall Interview (1 week) No use of standard classifications Sample: 18,591 households spread over 6 selected States 70% of the respondents residing in rural areas 18% of the respondents were of age less than 6 years 87% of the women reported that they participated in the household decision making Out of 168 hours, male spent on average about 42 hours in paid activities as compared to only about 19 hours by females
