1 NSF DDRIG Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants

2 Is a DDRIG for you? Aimed at Ph.D. students To improve the quality of their own doctoral dissertation research Judged on the basis of scientific merit Funding for one/two years (differs by program) $10-$20K (differs by program); not for stipend, or things that your institution normally provides Open to international students, provided they are enrolled at U.S. institutions You do not need to have passed the comps/or be ABD (but you need to be close)

4 National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorates: Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) Mathematical and Physical Sciences Divisions (e.g. within SBE): Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) Social and Economic Sciences (SES) Programs, e.g. within BCS: Linguistics, Anthropology

Read the General Grant Proposal Guide Find the guidelines specific to the NSF program you are applying for (duration, page limits, supporting letter from Chair, etc.) Look for examples of successful proposals NSF award search: www.nsf.gov/awardssearch/www.nsf.gov/awardssearch/ Ask awardee for a copy

7 Accessing NSF Fastlane You will receive an email from Fastlane that an account has been established in your name You will receive an email from ORS notifying you of the username and password for your Fastlane account Go to: https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/fastlane.jsp
