2 © SPEX SamplePrep, Inc. 2008 Introduction to SHATTERBOX 8530 Mill The non homogeneity of materials in the real world presents a serious sampling dilemma: How to represent a large, often non uniform whole with a small analytical sample. Often the best approach is first to take a quantity of the material large enough to be compositionally representative and reduce it to fine homogeneous powder.

3 © SPEX SamplePrep, Inc. 2008 Shatterbox ® 8530  The Shatterbox is the most popular “swing mill” in America  It is the most efficient way to grind brittle samples to analytical fineness  The Shatterbox swings a dish- shaped grinding container with a puck and ring, in a tight high- speed circle

4 © SPEX SamplePrep, Inc. 2008  Resultant particle size well below 200 mesh; with proper grinding aid, less then 10 microns  Wide choice of grinding container material and size  Clamp requires only moderate hand pressure to secure grinding dish and is adjustable to secure containers of different heights  Vial transporter available  Membrane control panel resistant to airborne particles Shatterbox ® 8530 Features & Benefits
