Who performs autopsies General histopathologists and forensic pathologists. Hospital autopsies – nearly all done by general pathologists. Coroner’s autopsies – 90%+ by general pathologists.
22
Histopathology with cytopathology is almost completely to do with the diagnosis and treatment of disease in the LIVING
23
The work of a histopathology laboratory :- 1) Reception of specimens with careful document- ation, including MACROSCOPICAL description of the specimen received 2)Preparation of sections for light microscopy for diagnosis 3)Production of written report on the histopathol -ogical findings, including diagnosis, grading and staging
24
The histopathologist and the clinician Need for good communication working increasingly in teams for example:- liver and renal transplantation cancer diagnosis and treatment (prostate, breast, colo-rectal, bone, etc) others involved (radiologist, oncologist, surgeon, physician, psychologist, nurse)
