How to structure it? o Understand the roles and the responsibilities of the position in detail o Prepare for the questions, that you intend to ask o Put the candidate at ease o Ask the Right Questions Focus on questions related to the Job Focus on the past experience of the candidate Look for the consistency in the responses Give the opportunity to the candidate to ask question, if any o Take notes during the interview, and based on the notes finally prepare a report or recommendation ranjeetsingh243 www.ranjeetsingh.in

How to develop questioning? TypesObjectiveExamples Closed Questions To check the basic facts To retain the control To make the candidate comfortable What was your percentage / CGPA in graduation? How long is your notice period? How many jobs have you changed so far? Open Questions To allow the candidate to reflect upon experience, feelings & opinions To allow candidate to give lengthier response To give the candidate more chance to do the talking Why do you want to change your Job? How much do you know about our organization? Share an experience from the work place, where you felt proud of yourself? ‘Tell me about a time….’ ‘Talk us through an instance when you….’ Reflective / Probing Question To understand a candidate’s behaviour To understand a candidate’s motivators To summarise the response of the candidate To empathise and to demonstrate that you are actively listening It sounds as if you are enjoying your current assignment If I understood you correctly, you…..’ In other words, what you did was to…..’ Challenge Question* To make the candidate rethink their point of view ‘You say that all of your colleagues think you are a good leader? How do you know that for a fact? ‘You say that you always leave your clients satisfied. Who amongst your clients has been the least satisfied? * Challenge Questions are by their nature provocative. How to develop listening? Body language tips – Make eye contact with the candidate whenever possible – Nod your head occasionally – Mirror a candidate’s facial expressions as appropriate – Sit upright or lean towards the candidate when he or she is speaking Interjecting – If the candidate is giving the information that is not relevant for the interview process, steer them back on the course using – ‘Can I stop you there? I did mention that I would interrupt and that’s all I need on that topic. Can we move on to….?’ – ‘Sorry to interrupt, but can I ask….’ – ‘I think I understand enough of the background, could you take me through the actions you took to deal with it, please?’ Taking notes – To capture the evidence – It represents the seriousness and communicates to the candidates that what they are saying is important and has value ranjeetsingh243 www.ranjeetsingh.in
