2 Learning Objectives After studying this lesson, you will be able to:  Create a variety of different types of charts  Move and size embedded charts  Modify, format, and print charts  Send a worksheet or workbook via email  Import web data into a worksheet 2

3 3 Chart Creation in Excel Linked to the data from which they come Two locations for charts:  Embedded in a worksheet with the data  On a separate worksheet Tip! If you create a chart and then tap [F11], the chart will be placed on its own worksheet.

4 Source Data for Charts Very important! Select the correct data as the source for the chart. 4 The ranges A4:A8 and F4:F8 have been selected as the location of the source data for the chart

5 5 Chart Types Eleven major chart types  Each has many subtypes

6 Chart and Axis Titles Create titles for charts and their vertical/horizontal axes 6 Chart title Vertical axis title Horizontal axis title

7 Chart Tools Chart Tools appear as contextual tabs of the Ribbon when a chart is selected 7

8 Embedded Charts: Moving & Sizing Embedded charts can be moved around the worksheet in which they are embedded Can be resized, too 8 When you see a double-arrow, click and drag to resize the chart Click and drag with a four- way arrow to move the chart to a new location

9 Line Charts Compare trends over a period of time 9

10 Pie Charts Graphically display the parts of a whole 10

11 11 Modifying Existing Charts Modify any chart object after the chart has been created:  Size, font, color  Placement of title  Number formatting  Background color  Add/remove chart elements such as legends  You can even move an embedded chart to a separate worksheet and vice versa…

12 Formatting Chart Elements Must first select an element before making changes Changes can be made on the Chart Tools tabs or with the formatting commands on the Home tab 12

13 13 Chart Styles Chart styles will be displayed on the Design tab of the Ribbon Based on the type of chart selected

14 Previewing and Printing Charts Preview how charts will appear when printed Viewed on the Print tab of Backstage view  Use same procedures as you would for printing any worksheet 14 Note! A print previewed chart will display in black and white or in color, depending on the type of printer selected. Tip! Color fills and borders may not provide good contrast in charts printed in grayscale. Consider using shades of gray or patterns.

15 Emailing Workbooks and Worksheets Attach workbook to an email Singe worksheet in the body of an email 15

16 Using a Web Query to Import Data Use the From Web command Choose how often to refresh data 16 You must select the table data from a web page to include in a web query
