Vegetable Oil Fuel By: Theresa Mackey
2
How does it work? Blend vegetable oil with lighter fuel Heat until it becomes thin enough Works just like Petroleum Diesel SVO, WVO
3
How is it being used? Alternative fuel for diesel engines (in automobiles) Heating oil burners in homes
4
Advantages Widely available Renewable Reduced Pollution Better engine lubrication High energy content/ Increased Range Comparable performance to petro- diesel Few disposable products are produced No extra chemicals to pay for
5
Disadvantages Cost of Conversion High Maintenance Limited to Diesel Engines Only Damage (Experimental Fuel) Can’t Replace Petroleum at Current Consumption Levels
6
Environmental Impact No Carbon Dioxide added to atmosphere Deforestation (Burning) Spills
8
Where is vegetable oil produced? Around the world (US, Europe, Austrailia) Used in same areas Germany is a big user
9
What would it replace? Alternative for Diesel and heating oil Vegetable oil is cleaner Cars have increased performance with vegetable oil Cheaper than diesel at the pump Renewable
